Probationary Tenancy
We offer probationary tenancies (commonly known as Third Six Pupillages) from time to time, when there is a specific need within Chambers. These are aimed at outstanding candidates who have completed pupillage elsewhere and are looking to build a career at a leading public law set.
Probationary tenants join us at a formative stage in their practice and benefit from a structured, supportive environment designed to help them develop a busy and rewarding career across our specialist areas.
What We Offer
Probationary tenants at Serjeants’ Inn are treated as junior members of Chambers and receive the same support, training and opportunities for development as full tenants.
- Structured support: Each probationary tenant is assigned a mentor to provide guidance on practice development, remuneration and wellbeing. You will also benefit from input from our Head of Pupillage and a dedicated welfare mentor.
- Fair allocation of work: We ensure work is distributed fairly and that probationary tenants are busy from the outset.
- No rent or fees: You will not make any financial contribution to Chambers during your probationary tenancy. Reasonable travel expenses may be available in certain circumstances.
- Integration into Chambers life: You will be invited to participate in all training, practice area meetings, seminars and social events alongside full members.
- Pathway to tenancy: At the conclusion of your probationary tenancy, you will be invited to apply for full tenancy. While an offer of tenancy is not guaranteed, we will only offer a place to someone we believe has real potential to thrive as a member of Chambers.
You can learn more about the support we offer on our pupillage page here.
Current Opportunities
We are currently inviting applications for a probationary tenancy focused on police law, to begin in Autumn 2025. You can find full details here.
